Your plan stays on your device
This policy explains what information The Name Path collects, why, and what we do with it. It covers our website, the free Social Security online checker, the plan and tracker app, and purchases of our guides. The short version: your plan answers, checklists, logs and notes stay on your own device. We don't use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. We only receive the information you give us when you buy or email us.
Who we are. The Name Path is a small, independent business. Our mailing address will be posted here before sales open. Contact: hello@thenamepath.com.
What stays on your device (we never receive it)
- The plan and tracker app. Your questionnaire answers, check-offs, dates, reference and tracking numbers, reminders, logs and notes are saved only in your browser's own storage on your device (IndexedDB, or localStorage if IndexedDB isn't available). The app also keeps an offline copy of its own pages on your device (a service worker cache) so it works without a connection. None of this is sent to us or anyone else.
- Backups and calendar files. "Export backup" and "Add to calendar" create files on your device. They go wherever you choose to save or share them; we never see them.
- Notifications. If you turn on notifications, your device's browser shows them from the reminder dates saved on your device. We don't run a notification server.
- The free Social Security online checker. It runs entirely in your browser and sends your answers nowhere.
- Erasing it. Use "Erase everything on this device" in the app, or clear your browser's site data. Because we never receive this data, we can't recover it for you.
What we collect
- When you buy. Once checkout opens, purchases will be processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record and handles payment, sales tax and receipts. It collects your name, email address, billing address and payment details under its own privacy policy (https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/privacy). We receive your name, email address, country, what you bought, the price paid and an order number. We never receive your full card number.
- When you email us. Your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message.
- Website visits. Our website doesn't set cookies or use analytics, advertising or social-media tracking, and it loads no fonts, scripts or images from other companies. Like every website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare, through Cloudflare Pages) receives technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested in order to deliver the page and protect against abuse. Cloudflare handles that technical information under its own privacy policy (https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/).
How we use it
- To deliver your guide and app access, and to send your receipt and download link.
- To mark your PDF with your name, email and order number (if we do this, it's only to discourage sharing).
- To answer your questions, process refunds and prevent fraud.
- To keep the business and tax records the law requires.
We don't sell your personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or use it to build marketing profiles. We'll only email you about your order unless you separately choose to hear from us, and every marketing email (if we ever send any) will include a way to unsubscribe.
Who else receives it
- Lemon Squeezy (checkout, payment, tax and receipts) and our email providers (Cloudflare Email Routing, which forwards mail sent to hello@thenamepath.com to a Google Gmail inbox), only as needed to provide those services.
- Authorities or others when the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone's safety.
- A successor business if The Name Path is ever sold, under this policy's protections.
Links to official sites
The guide and app link to official government sites (for example ssa.gov, azdot.gov and travel.state.gov). Those sites have their own privacy policies. We aren't affiliated with any government agency.
How long we keep it
Order records: as long as needed for delivery, support and refunds, and for as long as tax law requires. Support emails: up to 2 years after the last message. Then we delete them.
Security
We limit who can access order information and use reputable service providers. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure. If a breach affecting your information happens, we'll notify you as required by law.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@thenamepath.com. We'll answer within 30 days. We may need to keep some records the law requires. Depending on where you live, your state's law may give you additional rights; we'll honor them where they apply.
Do Not Track. Our website doesn't track you across other websites, and it doesn't allow other companies to do so, so it treats every visit the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
Children
Our guides are for adults who are changing their name after marriage. Our website and app aren't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is material, we'll also note it on the website before it takes effect.
